Albert Einstein has been quoted as saying that “Everything is energy.” We know that energy is all around us, from the furthest reaches of space to the quantum space between the smallest observable particle. When we adopt Einstein’s quote, it would make logical sense that when it comes to describing emotions we could describe them as energy.

This may explain why emotions are often referred to as ‘energy in motion’ – ‘e-motion’! Think about emotions and energy for a moment in your life. Do you feel that you are emotionally full of energy or drained of energy? Well, most people that I meet feel that they are emotionally drained, and if you are also drained, like most people, then you will not have the energy to be living your life optimally and purposefully!

You know that this is no way to live your life, and you are not alone. There are so many people out there living their life in this way. So, how does one change this? By using bioenergetic medicine techniques such as ROAs (Rhett Ogston Applications). In the same way that applying Einstein’s logic of everything is energy to emotions makes logical sense, it too makes logical sense to use ROAs. When emotions are not in motion, that is, when you get stuck in any emotion and you cannot get yourself out of that emotionally reactive state, you will end up drained of life and this is where using the ROAs (bioenergetic medicine) may get your energy flowing again.

This understanding of emotions and energy may be unfamiliar to you; however, it’s been a central understanding for over 5000 years in traditional healing practices such as traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). It has been well understood that when your energy (referred to in TCM as Qi, pronounced as chee) is not in flow, for example when your emotions are not in motion, then stagnation is the outcome.

According to TCM, where there is stagnation (energy not in flow) there is disharmony and poor health (feeling drained). If not resolved, then this stagnation dominates your life and living your life optimally and purposefully becomes out of reach! This ancient wisdom also makes sense from a physics perspective, that is, the law of thermodynamics states that energy can not be created or destroyed. You could therefore infer that if energy is not flowing, then it must be obstructed in some way, as recognised by practitioners of TCM. Using this logic, when energy or Qi is flowing, then there is emotional harmony and good health.

TCM, however, is not alone in this understanding of how emotions may affect your health. Candace Pert, PhD, in her book Molecules of Emotion: The Science Behind Mind-Body Medicine explains how peptides (a class of proteins that also includes endorphins) act like a nervous system, delivering information throughout the body. Pert’s theory is that the surface of all cells are covered with receptors (think of receptors as a mail box) for specific peptides. These free-floating molecules function as messengers (think of these as mail). When you are experiencing an emotion, a cascade of peptides is released that influences your body (you receive the message from the mail in the mail box that influences what you do next). In this way, Pert demonstrated that emotions affect physiology.

Pert has been quoted stating that “Most psychologists treat the mind as disembodied, a phenomenon with little or no connection to the physical body. Conversely, physicians treat the body with no regard to the mind or emotions. But the body and mind are not separate, and we cannot treat one without the other.

This view is an improvement on the Descartes model of current medicine, however it still is limited in its approach. Let me unpack that statement for you. When I created ROAs, each ROA takes into consideration the mind, emotions, the body and all the biochemical, hormonal and electrical changes that occur in the body and considers them to all interconnected. In fact, my signature ROA, FlameTree: the personal development & healing system goes beyond the conventional mind, body, spirt understanding, and considers eight energetic frequencies that make up, what I refer to as, the BodyMind complex.

When energy is in flow within the eight frequencies, then harmony and good healthy is the natural outcome. When energy is obstructed within one or more of the eight frequencies then disharmony and poor health results. For example, if the emotional frequency become obstructed, then emotional disharmony results. If it is not resolved immediately, by using, for example ROAs pro·m·emo essences or UEFT (Universal Emotional Freedom Technique) then, other frequencies may become affected and poor health results. When this occurs, then you feel energetically and emotionally drained and living your life optimally and purposefully, as stated above, is out of your reach!

Although there are many examples of techniques and therapies that work energetically on the body, for example, magnetic, vibrational or music therapy, acupuncture, Reiki, Tai Chi and Qi Gong to name but a few, they are still working from the old conventional body-mind-spirit or mind-body-spirit concepts. Forward thinking and progressive individuals who have experienced the effects produced by using ROAs will tell you that you can no longer rely on body-mind-spirit alone; this has now evolved!

Emotional healing using ROAs (bioenergetic medicine) is the way healthcare is heading. If you have not yet experienced this, then make it your priority to do so, so you too can begin reconnecting to emotional harmony and flow in your life. In this way, you can commence living the ROA motto of: Live optimally. Live purposefully.

Before I sign off on this blog, I will leave you with a list of tips that you can take on board to boost your energetic and emotional health.

  • Know your purpose in life. If you don’t yet know your purpose because you are stuck in your emotions, then this is exactly what the ROAs are here for; to assist you in regaining your energetic flow and emotional harmony.
  • As soon as you realise that you are stuck in your emotions, you need to rapidly release it! This is exactly why I created the ROAs pro·m·emo and UEFT. They are both designed to rapidly release emotional reactivity.
  • Make the choice to feel good. If you don’t make this choice, then you say yes to feeling not good! Even just saying the words “I choose to feel good” versus “I choose to feel not good” feels different. So, make your choice to feel good!
  • Give yourself permission to feel the power of gratitude. Make the choice to give gratitude to the things you have in your life. Spend at least 5 minutes or more in your day doing this.
  • Reconnect with nature – go for a walk, barefoot where possible, in a park and then as you do, look at the vast greenery around you. As you do, for 5 minutes do deep diaphragmatic breathing. This will also allow you to reconnect with feeling good, calm and your natural state of peace within.
